Follow Me - by Deacon John (Saturday 4:30 pm)

On that final journey to Jerusalem, Jesus told those who wished to follow him, "You want to follow me yet... I have nothing and the life I have I will give to God.Are you sure you want to follow me? Today we must ask ourseklves the same question because being a disciple of Jesus is not easy.

Love is love - by Pastor Lynn

The message that God loves everyone has no exceptions. I pray that we would become a congregation where all are welcome. God loves everyone, including people of every color, every country of origin, every faith, and every sexuality.

Christ's Grace - by Deacon John

Only those who realize the depth of their sin, can appreciate the complete forgiveness that God offers them. Jesus has rescued all of his followers whether they were once extremely wicked or conventionally good. We need to be grateful of God's mercy and grace, whether our sins are large or small. We are forgiven through Jesus' death and resurrection, rejoice be glad that we have a God who forgives all of us.

Divine Compassion - by Pastor Lynn

Whenever we offer a hug, a meal, a phone call, an invitation, a tissue, we are offering compassion. When we do these things in Jesus' name, we offer divine compassion, and share the good news with those who are hurting. Jesus may not come by and change the story, but he is present when we offer his compassion to others.

Welcoming the Foreigner - by Pastor Lynn

This week, be aware of the ways in which you welcome or push away some people, even if it's just people you see on TV. Are you an ugly Christian? Or do you seek often to welcome and include all?

Kwing it all - by Pastor Lynn

… This week, consider how many times you are sure you know something. Especially notice how many times you are sure you know something about God. If it's anything other than the truth of God's sacrificial love for us, remember you are mortal, and the only thing we know for sure about God is that God created the world and all that is in it because God loves us enough to die for us.

Spirit of passion - by Pastor Lynn

… I wonder who taught us that the appropriate way to worship God is to be quiet, to not show our emotions, to keep our hands in our laps with our heads bowed. And I wonder if God wants us to be so controlled. Isn't it possible that God wants us to be more fully involved, to use our whole bodies in worship? Other Christians clap and raise their hands in worship and the roof does not fall in. It does not seem to make God angry. It is OK for them to be passionate in worshiping God. Why can't we Lutherans be a little more passionate?

Come, Lord Jesus - by Pastor Lynn

There are plenty of opportunities to share the good news with someone who needs some good news. Let's be on the lookout for the times when praying the simple prayer, "Come, Lord Jesus" would be just the right words to use, either silently or aloud.

Open and closed doors - by Pastor Lynn

When in your life have you experienced closed doors? For how long did you beat at that door, and pull at the handle, trying to get it to open? What happened when you noticed an open door? How cautious were you in approaching it and going through it? What did you discover after you went through the door?

Welcoming the Gentiles - by Pastor Lynn

This week, ask yourself how well you love. Notice the way you label some people as unclean, as Gentiles, even if you really don't want to. Find a way, even if only in your imagination, to love the Gentiles. Remember, Jesus loves them, why shouldn't we?

Shepherds and sheep - by Pastor Lynn

Every one of us is both sheep and shepherd, even if we don't think of ourselves that way. We do our best as sheep to follow our Good Shepherd, to love as he loves. In following Jesus we are also shepherds. We lead others, officially, as the members of Council and as worship leaders, and so forth. We also lead others by example. When we take time to worship and study, we demonstrate to others the value of spending time with Jesus. When we make quilts and mow the lawn, we demonstrate using our gifts and interests to serve Jesus. We are shepherds and sheep at the same time.

Believe Boldly! - by Pastor Lynn

Where we are not so good is in boldly saying the name of Jesus to those who need to hear some good news. There is no reason for us to be afraid – there is no Sanhedrin or Roman army set to arrest us. And there is every reason for us to boldly proclaim Jesus is Lord of our lives to anyone who needs to know himow blest are thise who believe and have not seen me..

The tomb is empty! Now what?! - by Pastor Lynn

Today, we celebrate the good news that the tomb is empty. It is news worth sharing, so, go out and share it with someone. Say Happy Easter to someone. Tell someone else that they can do anything God is calling them to do, because the tomb is empty and Jesus is in charge.

The greatest love - by Pastor Lynn

LWhen we know Jesus, we can help our friends and acquaintances and people we've just met to know him, too. I know a woman who always had a full pew at church because she would say, "Please come with me this Sunday. I'll save you a seat." She was so enthusiastic about her congregation that many of the people she invited did come to sit with her and came week after week. Every year we learn a little more how God's extreme love for us is demonstrated in what Jesus did for us. Let's get better every year at sharing that love with others. Together and as individuals, let's exalt Jesus and proclaim him our Lord.

Anointed! - by Pastor Lynn

Let's remember that we have been anointed by God and filled with the Holy Spirit. We are called to follow Jesus, not to the cross, but to bring good news to all people. The anointing we have received is not for our burial, but to dare us to be Jesus' hands and feet and mouth and love in this world, this community.

Forgiven - by Pastor Lynn

Think about those times when you have strayed, or when a loved one has left God's fold. Remember the joy you felt when you came back to God, or when your loved one did. Just so, and more so, God feels this great joy. So, this week, watch for someone who needs to know that God still watches and waits longingly for them to return to the fold, to the family. Tell them that the God we believe in forgives them, and wants them to come home.

Urgent Care - by Pastor Lynn

We should always be on the lookout for ways to be God's people in our community, but we forget. Sometimes it takes a bit of urgent care; a crisis, a death, a serious illness, to remind us how precious life is, and how we are called and sent to bear fruit, divine fruit. Pay attention this week. What kind of fruit are you bearing? Do you need an urgent reminder to spend more time, real time, with Jesus? To care kindly and tenderly for others?

Gathered under Jesus’ wings - by Pastor Lynn

In what ways do you choose to be gathered under Jesus wings? How does your time there make you feel? In what ways do you choose to be sent out to work in the kingdom/reign of God? How does your time there make you feel? In what ways do you resist being drawn under Jesus' wings, or sent out to work in the kingdom? How does that resistance make you feel? My guess is you feel better when you are not resisting Jesus, wherever and whenever he gathers you or sends you. So come often to be gathered around the table, fed and nourished and strengthened, so that you may be sent out to do whatever Jesus is sending you to do in his name. (Written Only)

Don't Believe the Lies - by Pastor Lynn

Whatever we are doing, let's turn to Jesus for the truth about who we are – beloved children of God, forgiven and filled with grace and Holy Spirit power. Let's turn to Jesus for the truth about what we can do. Let us remember that we can do anything with God's help. And that's the truth! (Written Only)

Experiencing God - by Pastor Lynn

Our scripture readings today describe experiences people had with meeting God face to face. In ancient times, the belief – the fear – was that if you saw the face of God, you would die. Yet Moses went regularly up the mountain to meet with God. There are several stories of these encounters. In today's story, Moses' encounter with God gives him a shining face. Because the shining face scares the people, he puts a veil over his face until the glow fades. Isn't this how we feel when we have an encounter with the divine? We feel an inner glow of joy and love that shines within us and through us. But then, we return to "normal" life and the glow fades. We even forget what the glow feels like.

Divine abundance - by Pastor Lynn

In John's gospel, Jesus says, "I came that you may have life, and have it abundantly." He means that we have an abundant life whenever we have a loving, trusting relationship with God. This kind of abundance is not about money, or possessions, or choices, or even the nature that surrounds us. This kind of abundance is about knowing we are loved and forgiven, and in loving God and accepting God's grace in return.
